The sinful mile

Diverse entertainment in one street
Große Freiheit is a world-famous side street off the Reeperbahn. It begins at Beatles Square and is home to many pubs, bars and entertainment venues. Partygoers flock here in the evenings and at weekends. Its name dates back to the 17th century, when freedom of religion and trade was guaranteed.

The film ‘Große Freiheit Nr. 7’ starring Hans Albers, which features the well-known songs ‘Auf der Reeperbahn nachts um halb eins’ and ‘La Paloma’, was largely filmed here. You will meet Hamburg originals and original, sometimes even bizarre fellow human beings. The famous Star Club, known for performances by the Beatles and other renowned artists, such as Jimi Hendrix, was located here until 1969.
